Almost There: St. Louis On Cusp of PI Triumph After 3-1 Win
The St. Louis Lions moved to within one game of the Cup Qualifier, downing the visiting Chicago Union at The Lions Hearth by a score of 3-1. Lions right-hander Benno de Smit had a strong outing in which he threw 9.0 innings of 3-hit ball. The win gives the Lions a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-7 Play-in Series.

St. Louis starter Benno de Smit was a master of his craft. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 9 innings.

"Benno gets tougher when he has to, makes a big pitch when he has to," said St. Louis skipper Leo Cruz.
