The El Paso (R) Diablos were almost helpless in their 3-0 loss to the Houston (R) Mavericks and hurler Ryan Amato. Amato kept the Diablos confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout.

"Tip your hat to Amato," El Paso (R) manager Gerardo Ruiz said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."

The 19-year-old right-hander had no walks and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance.

"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Amato said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."

His record this season is 2-0 in 1 starts and Amato has a 4.87 ERA.
