Providence Halts Pike's Hitting Steak Monday, August 19th , 2024 It was the best of both worlds for the Providence Grays at Boston Field, as they defeated the Boston Battalion, 8-3, and also snapped Bud Pike's 20-game hitting streak. The 26-year-old Boston shortstop failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats. "Nothing personal against Pike, we just wanted to win the game," said Grays skipper Seigo Yamamoto. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing." When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Pike frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won." To date, Pike has collected 128 hits for a .318 average. He has posted 13 home runs, scored 63 runs and driven in 65 runs. |
