Ortiz Goes Yard 3 Times Wednesday, July 17th , 2024 New Orleans Buccaneers right fielder Willie Ortiz sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little. Prior to the start of today's contest with the Yuma Gnomes, Ortiz told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times. "During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber." The big day from Ortiz pushed the Buccaneers past the Gnomes, 9-5. To go along with the homers, he collected 9 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Ortiz told reporters after the game. Willie Ortiz hit a two-run home run off Jason Woodburn in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Jason Woodburn in the 3rd and hit a GRAND SLAM off A.J. Nicholson in the 5th. So far this season, Ortiz has 4 home runs and a .304 batting average. |
