Penagate Picks Up ESPC Rookie of the Year Award Saturday, November 2nd , 2024 He was a "talented and gifted ballplayer." That the way one BNN writer described the rookie right fielder for Ottawa in the article announcing him as the Eastern Semi-Pro Circuit Rookie of the Year Award recipient. Paullo Penagate came on the scene this year and quickly established himself as player to be reckoned with. The 25-year-old Capitals newcomer took the trophy by hitting .305 in 138 games this season and finished with 160 hits, 11 home runs, 77 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He received 20 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Mario Martinez of the Hamilton Tigers finished second in voting, while Taylor Moeller of the Ottawa Capitals finished third.
