Arizona, Philadelphia Execute Trade
Wednesday, November 27th , 2024
You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that Arizona and Philadelphia have made a swap with 26-year old RHP Justin Simpson being shipped to the Keystones and in return the Suns would get 32-year old LHP Jon Brandman, 22-year old minor league 2B Mike Doyle, and 19-year old minor league 1B Wes Diess.
Arizona general manager Arizona Caretaker said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction.
"This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines."
A source inside the Arizona organization said the two sides might not be done dealing, and another transaction could be in the works.
Philadelphia will retain a portion of Brandman's remaining contract.
Taking the hill 44 times in his career, Simpson has compiled an ERA of 5.37. He has tossed 109 innings with 118 strikeouts and 45 free passes. Opponents have hit .312 against him. He has a record of 7-9.
Through the years Brandman has fashioned a 84-61 mark, 3.68 ERA and thrown 1372 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .261 lifetime against him and he has logged 1151 career strikeouts.
