Indianapolis Starter Named EC's Best Pitcher Thursday, August 1st , 2024 Javier Mata of Indianapolis had an award-winning July as he took home the Eastern Circuit Pitcher of the Month award. "He told me once people used to make fun of the way he pitches," Mata's pitching coach told reporters. "There wasn't anybody laughing in July except for Javier." Mata was all business when he took the mound though, collecting a 6-0 record in 6 starts. He struck out 34 batters in 49.1 innings and kept opponents to a .219 batting average. This year, Mata has made 10 starts, thrown 77.2 innings, fanned 55 batters and walked 16. His won-lost record is 9-0 with a 2.43 ERA. |
