Diablos Lose Despite Valiant Effort by Partee
The St. Louis Lions withstood a fine game by El Paso catcher Luke Partee at The Lions Hearth, to upend the Diablos, 7-6. Partee belted 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Picking up the win was Luke Whalen. He went 6.2 innings, allowing 6 runs on 11 hits. The right--hander struck out 6 and walked 0. With the win, St. Louis upped its record to 43-33.

St. Louis second baseman Joey Askew contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the third. With two down, he hit a cutter to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 11th hit of the season and put the Lions ahead, 7-3.

"We ground out the win," said Askew. "That's all that matters."
