Titans Rojas Sizzles with Cycle
|
Jose Rojas did everything he could for the Long Beach Titans -- literally.
The 20-year-old catcher hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Titans, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Manhattan Liberty, 5-2, at Long Island Park.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Rojas reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Rojas banged out 4 hits in 4 at-bats and totaled 2 runs batted in and 1 run scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Jose Rojas hit a solo-shot off Joon-hwan Roh in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI triple in the 8th.
Rojas has a .285 average and a .393 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 65 hits, 7 home runs and driven in 41 runs.
