Atlanta Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
When the stakes were high, Steve Yates raised his game to match.

The right-handed Yates turned in a stellar performance in Game 2 of the Play-in Series, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Atlanta Pilots to victory. He allowed 5 hits and struck out 5. The win gave Atlanta a 2-0 lead over the Detroit Motors in the best-of-7 series.

Yates was effective for Atlanta, seldom allowing the Motors to square up a pitch. The right-hander tossed 107 pitches over 9 innings. He limited Detroit to just 1 run on 5 hits.

"I was determined to go the distance," said Yates.

Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at The Hangar in Atlanta.
