"I was in a groove," he said. "Every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit." For the day, the Chicago (R) catcher went 3-for-4 against Washington (R) with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting that led the Union to the 9-0 win. "I tell you what. I'm shocked because I didn't think that last ball had enough to get out," he told BNN reporters in the clubhouse following the game. "I thought it was just going to be a long out." Clay Whalen grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Kymani Williams in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Felipe Gomez in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off Felipe Gomez in the 7th. Whalen is currently batting .245 with 11 home runs, 45 RBIs and 32 runs scored. He has 53 hits in 216 at-bats. |
