The Indianapolis Clowns earned a close win over the Detroit Motors, thanks in part to Javier Mata. The Indianapolis right-hander, who finished 4th in the EC in innings pitched with 169.1 in 2021, played a key role in the 10-inning, 3-2 victory. Erik Lee picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 1-2. Jaiden LeFlore suffered the loss. John Hawkins recorded the save for Indianapolis, his 1st of the season.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Garrett Thomason? The 24-year old third baseman Thomason stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put Indianapolis up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.

"Hustle and hard work is a big part of our success," said Thomason. "Those qualities define our team."

Detroit now has a record of 6-2.
