Lions Rebuff Mavericks, 5-3
|
St. Louis parlayed a decent outing from starter Jesse Pesa into a solid win over the Houston Mavericks. The final score was 5-3. Pesa yielded 1 run over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 8. His record improves to 9-7. Jack Reynolds got credit for the save for St. Louis. It was his 15th of the year.
Scott Poppe, who is tied for 3rd in the WC in doubles with 24, helped out the St. Louis cause in the bottom of the second inning with a run-scoring walk. For the game, the center fielder drew 4 walks.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Pesa told the St. Louis News. "You win just by scoring more runs."
With the win, the Lions have a record of 49-39.
