Santa Cruz Hits Two Dingers, Warriors Win, 8-2
|
The Washington Warriors topped the Miami Sun Sox, 8-2, in Eastern Circuit action at Sun Sox Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Washington third baseman Danny Santa Cruz. Chris Chadwick, the winner, improved to 3-4. He held the Sun Sox to 2 runs on 4 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 3. Fidel Santiago, who finished 3rd in the EC in saves with 17 in 2014, earned the save for Washington.
With Washington leading 3-2 in the top of the fourth, Santa Cruz came up to bat against Miami pitcher Tyshawn Dortch. Santa Cruz hit a fastball to right for a 2-run home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Warriors on top, 5-2.
"I think it just wasn't our night," said Miami skipper Barry Lolicht.
The setback makes Miami 20-36.
