Riding the 3-hit performance of catcher Luke Partee, the El Paso Diablos stopped the visiting San Francisco Peanuts, 7-3, in Game 2 of the Cup Qualifier. Partee went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs for the Diablos, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 0.

Aaron Shelby, who finished 3rd in the EC in slugging percentage with .622 in 2017, helped out the El Paso cause in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run-scoring ground out. For the game, the designated hitter drove in one run.

"Every time I go up there, I try and hit a ball hard," said Partee.

Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at Garibaldi's Grounds in San Francisco.
