Gus Sanchez got his name recorded today, but the Tampa Bay (R) Thunder picked up the win at PBC Rookie Development Complex, topping the Dallas (R) Texans, 11-10. "He bushwhacked us," said winning manager Brandon Land. "We were lucky to come out ahead." Sanchez spoke to reporters in the clubhouse following the game, saying his nerves only set in once he was on the cusp of the milestone. "I got too much adrenaline going when I realized that this could be a once-in-a-lifetime day," the left fielder said. "I think the coaches could tell I was going to be ready to swing at anything close. That's why my third base coach told me to calm down and wait for a good pitch. That got me back on track." Gus Sanchez singled in the 2nd, struck out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off David Bermudez in the 6th, hit a two-run double in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off Victor Agostini in the 8th and singled in the 11th. So far this season, Sanchez is hitting .251 with 10 home runs, 26 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has 43 hits in 171 at-bats and a .326 OBP. View Boxscore |
