Aspden Dominates St. Petersburg Monday, August 22nd , 2022 The St. Petersburg Pelicans manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Long Beach Titans. The Pelicans were overpowered by Long Beach starter Paul Aspden, who hurled his club to victory, 1-0. "It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Josiah Pannell said. Over 5 innings, Aspden blanked St. Petersburg on 1 hit with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. "I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Aspden said. "I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one." Thus far this season, Aspden has worked 31.1 innings with 29 strikeouts en route to a 2-1 record and a 1.72 ERA. View Boxscore |
