The Houston Mavericks converted a terrific effort from starter Matt Beissel into a win over the St. Louis Lions at The Lions Hearth. The Mavericks won the game by a final score of 5-2. Beissel got the win, improving to 11-5. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 8.2 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Toshifumi Sato earned his 8th save in 9 chances.

It could have been a different outcome for Houston, had it not been for Bubba Marino, the 30-year old shortstop . Marino contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh inning to put Houston up, 4-2.

"Matt was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said Houston manager Eric Hartman.

The loss makes St. Louis 49-38.
