The Chicago Union could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Jon Naugle into a win. Instead, the Houston Mavericks prevailed, 6-5, in 10 innings. Naugle threw 6.1 innings of 2-hit ball. Houston now has a record of 31-30 with the win.

Houston got a clutch hit from Jesus Mendieta. The right fielder launched a solo home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.

"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Mendieta told the Houston Citizen. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
