Detroit (R) second baseman Ian Reed went down swinging at PBC Rookie Development Complex, knocking out 5 hits even as his Motors fell, 10-5.

"It was like I was hitting Little League pitching," Reed said after his 5-for-5 performance against the Houston (R) Mavericks. "No offense meant to Houston (R), but it was like I was back in little league again -- I could see the ball that well."

After the game, his manager elaborated on the second baseman's improvements, saying Reed spent the offseason trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball.

"That's what I'm trying to do," Reed agreed. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."

Ian Reed singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Stephen McGinlay in the 6th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.

So far this year in 33 games, Reed is hitting .326 with 8 home runs, 19 RBIs and 27 runs scored.
