Leal Thwarts New York City (R), 1-0
Tuesday, July 14th , 2020
The New York City (R) Blues manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Chicago (R) Union. The Blues were overpowered by Chicago (R) starter Juan Leal, who hurled his club to victory, 1-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Norimoto Kayano said.
Over 9 innings, Leal blanked New York City (R) on 6 hits with 1 walk and 7 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Leal said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
This year, Leal has made 9 starts, thrown 46.2 innings, fanned 46 batters and walked 26. His won-lost record is 3-4 with a 6.75 ERA.
