Vera Holds Oil City Scoreless Thursday, June 25th , 2020 Providence Grays starter Francisco Vera really did a number on the Oil City Oilers, shutting them out, 9-0, on 7 hits in a complete game victory. He issued 2 walks and had 12 strikeouts. "We didn't have good at-bats," said Oil City manager John Whitmyer. "I don't make excuses, but when we were playing the game, our energy didn't show. That comes from either extremely good pitching or extremely lousy hitting and seeing as our team has a bunch of good hitters, I have to tip my cap to Vera." To date, Vera has a 5-7 mark in 16 starts with a 5.30 ERA. He has given up 108 hits in 93.1 innings, struck out 88 and issued 49 walks.
