Mavericks Need Extra Innings to Top Cutthroats, 3-2
|
Houston turned a good performance from starting pitcher Steve Yates into a 3-2 triumph over the Denver Cutthroats at Cutter's Cove. Tetsuhiro Kawakami earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record is now 3-1. With the win, the Mavericks improved to 36-51.
Houston took advantage of an error in the top of the 12th inning. The game was tied, 2-2, when Tony Ames hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Mavericks in front, 3-2.
"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Mavericks manager Random Taek.
