|
The inspired effort of Denver designated hitter Manny Salcedo was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-3, to the St. Louis Lions. Salcedo went 4-4 with 4 singles, while adding 2 RBI. Brandon Hooks, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-0. He pitched 7.1 innings, giving up 9 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 10 and walking 2. The Lions raised their record to 3-1.
St. Louis first baseman Bryan Norlander contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 2nd hit of the season and put the Lions ahead, 6-3.
"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Norlander told the St. Louis News.
