The Houston Mavericks knocked off the Chicago Union, 4-2, in Professional Baseball Circuit action at Trident Field. Houston pitcher and Los Gatos, California, native Steve Yates had an outstanding performance. The Mavericks, now 11-20, know that wins in July count the same as wins in September.

Houston used a clutch at-bat from Tim Platt to capture the win. The first baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Mavericks ahead, 4-0. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

In postgame remarks, Platt applauded his team's "toughness."
