Union Chill Hammarlund Hot Streak
Monday, September 9th , 2019
Toronto (R) catcher Bill Hammarlund came into today's game against the Chicago (R) Union on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.
The Union did their jobs well, beating the Toronto (R) Titans, 7-4, and holding Hammarlund hitless to snap his 23-game hitting streak. The 19-year-old catcher had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-4, telling reporters only that he "came up short."
"What Bill did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Titans manager Joe Lindquist. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 23 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."
So far this season, Hammarlund is batting .321 with 15 home runs.
