Mercado Goes 5-for-5 Against Saskatoon
|
Speaking with reporters after a dominating hitting performance, Gabriel Mercado said his club's tilt with the Saskatoon Moose "felt almost like batting practice." The 24-year-old right fielder went a remarkable 5-for-5 at the plate.
"I saw the ball well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted," he recalled later.
However, his sensational day wasn't enough for the Calgary Caracals, who were topped by the Moose, 6-4.
"It's a good lesson for him, I guess," Caracals manager Dorian Harmon said. "Sometimes Gabriel is going to lose. But I would rather him go 5-for-5 and lose than go 0-for-5 and lose."
Gabriel Mercado singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season, Mercado is hitting .359 with 5 home runs.
