Francisco Gonzalez exploded for a barrage of base hits at Capitals Stadium.

The Detroit third baseman had a field day in his team's 12-4 triumph over the Ottawa Capitals, finishing 5-for-5.

"My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."

Gonzalez must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Francisco Gonzalez hit a two-run single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Solano Romo in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

This year, Gonzalez is hitting .286 with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .333 clip and scored 13 runs.
