Shields Wins Award for WAC Dominance Tuesday, September 19th , 2017 Isaiah Shields was a calming influence out of the Houston Apollos bullpen this season. His teammates and manager said he had a poised demeanor about him that was typical of someone much older and more experienced. His poise has paid off, as the 26-year-old turned in a sparkling season and has been named the winner of the Western Amateur Circuit Reliever of the Year Award for 2017. The East Foothills, California native won the award with 11 saves in 39 relief appearances, 74 strikeouts in 67 innings and a record of 9-3 to go with his 2.96 ERA. He received 13 first place votes out of a possible 20. Ryan Shatzer of the Yuma Gnomes finished second in voting with 7 first place votes, while Tony Sanchez of the Albuquerque Coyotes finished third.
