Great Stroke: Willerton Gets 5 Hits Friday, July 22nd , 2016 After a 5-hit effort to lead Chicago (R)'s 9-7 victory over the Miami (R) Sun Sox, center fielder Cary Willerton told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day." "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the PBC Rookie Complex League-level is really something special." The 19-year-old player earned his accolades at PBC Rookie Development Complex with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Sun Sox. "His swing is getting there," said Union skipper Omar Rivera, who spoke glowingly of Willerton after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Cary did that to perfection." Cary Willerton singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 6th and singled in the 9th. In his season totals, Willerton has 3 home runs, .282 BA, .344 OBP, 16 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He has played in 33 games. View Boxscore |
