5-for-6 Day for Smith Sunday, July 3rd , 2016 Mike Smith was at the head of a Long Beach Titans hit parade at Ballpark of Franklin. The 35-year-old went to the plate 6 times and came away with 5 hits, but it was the Franklin Knights that marched off with the 13-7 win. "We didn't have it today," griped Titans skipper Chad Owens following the game. "Mike did fine, but as a team, we didn't do it with the bats and we didn't do it pitching." Smith did more than fine, dominating the Knights at the plate during his record-making 5-for-6 performance. "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging first baseman told reporters. "When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats." Mike Smith struck out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Marco Vega in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and doubled in the 9th. This year, Smith is hitting .340 with 5 home runs and 16 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .483 clip and scored 13 runs. View Boxscore |
