David Pena of the Miami (R) Sun Sox was on top of his game.

The 18-year-old tantalized the Dallas (R) Texans with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 3-0.

"He had the changeup working," Dallas (R) manager Amir Fletcher said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Miami (R) hurler had 8 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.

Pena told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This season, Pena has worked 30 innings with 30 strikeouts en route to a 2-3 record and a 6.00 ERA.
