The New York City Blues could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Jay Williams into a win. Instead, the Chicago Union prevailed, 5-4. Williams threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Chicago reliever Javier Mata snagged the win, upping his record to 3-1. John McClinton shouldered the loss. Their 19-25 record puts the Union 8th in the PBC West Division.

Dan Ruzicka delivered a big hit for Chicago. The designated hitter drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Union ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.

"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Ruzicka told a Chicago Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
