Boosted by the 3-hit performance of Cole Ray, who led the in runs with 78 in 2006, the New York City Blues defeated the Tampa Bay Thunder, 4-2. Sam Burton earned the win for New York City. He lasted 7.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 3-1. John McClinton zipped up his 8th save.
With New York City leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Ray hit a changeup from Melvin Palacios for a 2-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Blues ahead, 4-1.
New York City manager Jay Bourne was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
The losing streak for Tampa Bay has now reached 4 games.
