Leal Wins Award for R Dominance Wednesday, October 29th , 2014 He may only be 18, but Mel Leal of the Tampa Bay (R) Thunder has already established himself as one of the elite relievers in the PBC Rookie Complex League. The reliever was today named the R Reliever of the Year Award winner for 2014. He won the award with a strong year that saw him put up 7 saves in 46 relief appearances and 116 strikeouts in 83.2 innings. He had a record of 9-4 to go with his 3.12 ERA. He received 11 first place votes out of a possible 18. Chris Watkins of the New York City (R) Blues finished second in voting with 7 first place votes, while Boboy Formentera of the New York City (R) Blues finished third.
