Grays End Mertens Streak Saturday, August 9th , 2014 The Providence Grays pitching staff did its job, holding hot-hitting Waldemar Mertens hitless in 4 at-bats during the club's 7-6 victory over the Long Beach Titans at Long Island Park. The disappointing performance ended a 23-game hitting streak for the right fielder. "I'm a little down right now," Mertens said after the game. "I couldn't get anything going when the team needed me, and I hated to see the streak end, too." Mertens is hitting .365 so far this season with 38 RBIs and 47 runs scored. He has 77 hits including 9 home runs, 19 walks and .417 OBP. |
