Mertens Ups Hit Streak to 20 Consecutive Games Monday, August 4th , 2014 Waldemar Mertens has been on a tear for several weeks, and his hitting streak just keeps getting longer. The 22-year-old Long Beach Titans right fielder extended his streak to 20 games, going 3-for-4 as Long Beach got the best of the Brooklyn Atlantics at Long Island Park, 6-4. "Waldemar has been playing real well lately and we're proud of him," Titans manager Chad Owens said. Waldemar Mertens flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th and doubled in the 7th. So far this season, Mertens is batting .366 with 8 home runs, 35 RBIs and 42 runs scored. He has 71 hits in 194 at-bats, 19 walks and a .423 OBP. Mertens has played in 43 games. |
