Lions Cruise to Cup Qualifier with Sweep Sunday, October 5th , 2014 It's a sweet sweep for the St. Louis Lions and they have won the Play-in Series. The Houston Mavericks were not able to keep pace with the Lions and dropped the series in short order, losing, 7-3, in the deciding game. "This wasn't really the effort we hoped for," said Houston manager Kevin Read. It's now on to the Cup Qualifier for St. Louis after their 3-0 series win. Leading the way for the winners was first baseman George Hendriks, who was named MVP. For the series, Hendriks hit .455 with a .571 on-base percentage.
