Even as a kid, Jelmar Pronk said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At PBC Rookie Development Complex, Pronk showed how well he learned that lesson.

The 17-year-old third baseman had 5 hits in 5 at-bats for the Denver (R) Cutthroats, helping his team knock off the St. Louis (R) Lions by a score of 11-2.

"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did."

Jelmar Pronk hit a two-run home run off Man Lao in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a three-run home run off Rafael Para in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
