Thornton Homers Twice in 5-4 Win
The Houston Mavericks scooted past the Miami Sun Sox, 5-4, at Mavericks Ballpark. Houston left fielder Jonathan Thornton, in particular, performed like a star. Earning the save was Brian Farmer. He's now cashed in 1 of 2 save opportunities. The win for the Mavericks lifted their record to 49-31.

Thornton contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Houston in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 2-0, Thornton took a fastball from Victor Martinez and stroked the home run to right-center. His 23rd home run of the season allowed the Mavericks to leap in front, 3-2.

"I had some good swings out there," said Thornton.
