One Run Enough for Vancouver
Paul Rudolph of the Vancouver Grizzlies was on top of his game.

The 35-year-old tantalized the Hamilton Tigers with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.

"He had the changeup working," Hamilton manager Pat McDowell said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Vancouver hurler had 6 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.

Rudolph told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This year, Rudolph has worked 159.2 innings with 155 strikeouts en route to a 8-9 record and a 2.54 ERA.
