Denver catcher Ozzie Reyes had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Reyes was 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times, even as Chicago beat the Cutthroats, 7-5. J.R. Wood, the winning pitcher, improved to 1-0. He pitched 8 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 3. The save was Fidel Santiago's, his 4th.
Beaufort, North Carolina-born Jon Morales came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Union trailing 5-4, he hit a 2-run single to center to put Chicago on top.
"I feel like we're rolling now," Morales told the Chicago Observer."The dugout is coming alive."
Chicago has run its win streak to 6 consecutive.
