Caracals Listless in 7-0 Loss to Empires Monday, September 23rd , 2013 Coen Raatjes of the Southern California Empires was on top of his game. The 22-year-old tantalized the Calgary Caracals with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 7-0. "He had the changeup working," Calgary manager Jason Benn said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower." The Southern California hurler had 8 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 7 hits in his complete-game effort. Raatjes told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league." "If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
