El Paso third baseman Gary Payer pounded Los Angeles Knights pitchers at Inferno Field, but it was not enough to keep the Diablos from falling, 7-6, in Game 1 of the Cup Qualifier. Payer was 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times, though he couldn't keep the Diablos from slipping to a 1-0 deficit in the best-of-7 series.

Danny Holt drove in one run against the Diablos. With the game tied in the top of the ninth inning, he got hit by a pitch, driving in 1 run that put Los Angeles in front, 7-6.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Holt said.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Inferno Field in El Paso.
