Peanuts Rebuff Cutthroats, 6-4
|
The San Francisco Peanuts beat the Denver Cutthroats, 6-4, with major props going to designated hitter Willie Zamora. On the day, Zamora was 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Peanuts. San Francisco pitcher Matt McFadyen earned the win, hiking his record to 2-4. Pedro Mora suffered the loss. Jim Zapata earned the save, his 2nd in 2 tries.
Mehret Karume had a big 2-run home run for the Peanuts in the bottom of the fourth inning. With San Francisco leading 4-1 and a runner on 3rd, he got a changeup from Pedro Mora and swatted a home run to left. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Peanuts ahead, 6-1.
Karume told the San Francisco Citizen: "Don't care what other people think. Mehret knows who Mehret is."
The Peanuts raised their record to 33-50.
