Miyake Lifts Thunder to 6-3 Triumph
|
The Tampa Bay Thunder dealt the Washington Warriors a 6-3 loss at The Thunder Bowl. Kengo Miyake was the star on offense. He went 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 4 and driving in 2. Kevin Schuerger, the winner, improved to 4-3. He held Washington to 3 runs on 6 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts. Justin Denton picked up the save, his 9th.
Tampa Bay right fielder Ricky Coventry contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a sinker to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 40th hit of the season and put the Thunder ahead, 5-3.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Coventry told the Tampa Bay Chronicle. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
Tampa Bay sits in 4th place in the South Division at 21-23.
