Aces Get Better of Diablos, 6-4
|
The Las Vegas Aces defeated the El Paso Diablos, 6-4, in part because of left fielder Alan Tompkins. Tompkins was 2 for 2 with a double and 2 walks for the Aces. The winner was Abebaw Kiara, who threw 112 pitches over 7 innings. The right-hander was charged with 3 runs on 5 hits. Jared Booth, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
Dave Gruhn had a big 3-run home run for the Aces in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Las Vegas trailing 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Darius Hagen, who is tied for 8th in the PBC in quality starts with 8, and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Aces on top, 4-3.
Gruhn told the Las Vegas Times: "Win or lose, I don't want to see our team outhustled."
The win puts the Aces at 26-17, while the Diablos drop to 30-13.
