Buccaneers Announce McMenemy Will Retire Wednesday, August 29th , 2012 New Orleans first baseman Fletcher McMenemy won't be back next year. The 37-year-old announced plans today to retire at the end of the 2012 campaign, saying that it was time to call it a career. "I could probably play another year," McMenemy said, "but I don't have that fire you need to play well. And I'm not going out there on those terms. It's a disservice to the Buccaneers and baseball in general. There are just too many aches and pains in this old body for me to continue playing." |
