Play-in Series Game 1 Goes to Tampa Bay, Thanks to Mattson
The Tampa Bay Thunder started the Play-in Series in style, downing the visiting Houston Mavericks at The Thunder Bowl by a score of 5-4 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Thunder second baseman Curt Mattson was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

Had Ryan Horrocks not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Horrocks hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Thunder.

Tampa Bay manager Kevin Norris commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at The Thunder Bowl in Tampa.
