The Tampa Bay Thunder downed the Atlanta Pilots, 6-2. The hitting star was designated hitter Michael Brown. Brown went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2 for the Thunder. Dave Miller earned the win, while 30-year old left-handed pitcher Kirk Garcia took the loss for Atlanta. With the win over Atlanta, the Thunder improved to 49-34.
Darnell Phillips had a big bases-clearing triple for the Thunder in the top of the sixth inning. With Tampa Bay leading 3-2 and the bases loaded, he got a sinker from 30-year old left-handed pitcher Kirk Garcia and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 5th triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thunder ahead, 6-2.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Phillips, "one at-bat at a time."
